Cardinal Robert Francis has been elected as the new Pope, becoming the first American pontiff in the history of Catholic Church.
The 69 years old new Pope, who has taken the name Leo XIV, was named Cardinal by Pope Francis in 2023.
Cardinal Prevost, who was born in the United States of America, had higher votes to win the conclave.
It was learnt that the conclave, held in the Sistine Chapel, witnessed 133 cardinals gather to choose the next leader of the Church.
The white smoke emitted from the Sistine Chapel, signaled that a new pope had been elected, against the black smoke.
Cardinal Francis is the 267th occupant of the throne of St Peter and he has chosen to be known as Leo XIV.
