The Chairman of Obio/Akpor Local Government Council, Chijioke Ihunwo has stated that Rivers people will defend the resources of the state from one man at the sufferings of the citizens
The OBALGA chairman, express that “Rivers State is too big for one man to own and that is why we are here to defend our people. Our local government has been liberated. Whatever they are doing is their business, we are not interested, what we are interested in are the people.
Ihunwo, made the ascertain when members of  the Correspondents Chapel of the Nigerian Union of Journalists (NUJ) visited him at the weekend, ahead of their press week event.
He described the state governor, Siminalayi Fubara as a silent achiever, saying “You know that his Excellency, the governor of Rivers State is a quiet and humble person. The governor is a quiet person. Everybody must not be quiet, me I am not a quiet person.We won’t allow them to intimidate us.
“For our local government, we have taken charge of this local government whether you like it or not, we are in charge of this local government and during the crisis, you saw what happened after the swearing in ceremony that people tried coming here to disturb the council, and we said no to that.”
Speaking on the recent arson attack on LG council secretariats in the state, Ihunwo said “You can’t come and burn government building that you did not contribute, it’s not your personal money or your father’s money. You want to come and put it on fire and people are clapping, Nigerians are clapping.
“You saw what happened in Ikwerre local government, Emuoha, you can’t try it in Obio/Akpor local government, we will resist you. You can’t try it.”
He warned that “Anybody who is is fighting governor Fubara is fighting Obio/Akpor local government. We will support you, but continue to support his Excellency, the governor of Rivers State.
“The governor is a silent achiever. The governor is not the other people who will come, they build small toilet, they will call Channels, people will start clapping. Our governor is a man, he is developing Rivers State gradually, we are moving forward.”
Commending the journalists for being objective in their reports, the OBALGA boss said “Continue to pray for his Excellency, the governor and let there be peace in Rivers State. Already there is peace, God is in charge of our state.
One man cannot be God. Nobody can be God. It is only God. Today I am here because God said I am going to be the chairman of Obio/Akpor local government. I will do my tenure and another person will come. Here is not your father’s house. I will go, another person will come.”
