…Atiku Sympathise with State Govt, victims families
Over 120 people were reported to have lost their lives in a tragic explosion that occured in Jigawa State.
Omable African News gathered that a petrol tanker exploded in Majiya village of Taura local government area, Jigawa, claimed the number lives.
The Jigawa State Police Command, confirmed that 105 persons died in the fire incident, saying they the tanker entered through the drainage at the outskirts of the village.
In a statement signed by the command Public Relations Officer, DSP Lawan Adam, revealed that “A tragic and devastating incident occurred on October 15, 2024, at about 10:30pm, involving a petrol tanker with registration number KMC 6412 F, driven by one Yusuf Mohd ‘m’ age 32yrs of Hotoro Quarters, Kano State.
“The tanker was traveling from Kano to Nguru, Yobe State, when the driver lost control near Khadija University in Majia Town, Taura LGA, causing it to overturn and spill fuel.
”Unfortunately, villagers attempted to scoop petrol from the drainage, resulting in a flame that engulfed the area and many people were reportedly perished”.
The spokesperson of the Police Command disclosed that about 50 victims who sustained various degree of injuries to the hospital for treatment.
Adam continued that “One hundred and five (105) corpses have been evacuated, while 50 injured persons were rushed to Ringim and Hadejia General Hospitals for medical attention.
“The fire was successfully extinguished through the combined efforts of police officers, firefighters, and good Samaritans.”
Meanwhile, a Vice President of the country, Atiku Abubakar has expressed sadness over the incident, sympathised with the system government and victims families.
Atiku who spoke through his Twitter handle said “I am saddened by reports of the death of scores of people in a petrol tanker explosion in Majiya town in Taura Local Government Area of Jigawa State.
“The incident in Jigawa is one too many involving tragic petrol tanker explosions in the country. It is about time we explored other means, like rail, for transporting petroleum products around the country.
“It is also pertinent to train drivers involved in the transportation of flammable products and review the protocol for the transportation of petroleum products and other inflammable products.
I wish to share my grief with the people and government of Jigawa State and ask for an expeditious rescue and control operation. No resource should be spared in treating the injured”, Atiku advised.
